Pioneers, some unanswered questions
Posted Thu May 01 09:59:47 -0700 2008B Arts was asked by one of our funders to write a book reflecting on the story of our work with displaced people in Stoke-On-Trent over the last 8 years. We decided to use it as a way to think about the questions the work has raised for us about place, about culture, about interactions, about identity and a whole lot more!
We thought this might interest some people here so (shamelessly:-) ....
This is from the flyer promoting the book:
pioneers, some unanswered questions
Pioneers suggests going forwards, going towards (not away from)…taking the first steps into the new,
the untrodden; making new lives for ourselves and opening up the possibilities for others,
making a difference to the places they come to.(RebeccaHilary)
I want to write the history of us doing this work – from my/our side,
but also from Aram’s, Marewan’s, Said’s, some other people’s.
And to remember how it’s challenged us, and the questions it’s made us ask. (Gill)
Pioneers reflects on 8 years of work with displaced people; bringing the international work home,
was fruitful artistically, changed our approaches to community cohesion and social justice.
The work has changed the face of our company in every way. (Gill)
It’s not where you come from that matters, its where you go (Aram)
